Quick Update: Approaching Jasper
Yesterday I arrived in Hinton and for the 2nd time on this trip I was able to benefit from a warm shower. It’s great if other cycling enthusiasts offer a shelter for the night and a warm shower. Especially after a day like yesterday where I was cycling almost 90km through the rain I was happy not having to put up my tent.
A couple of days past since my last update and I notice that I do not take proper time to document my experiences and give my body necessary rest. On many days I’ve cycled more than 100km and have passed mountains with up to 1600m height. When I reach the campground or the warm shower I’m mostly so exhausted that I go to bed around 10pm and stay in bed or my sleeping bag until 8am in the morning. Especially now as I’m heading towards Jasper and Banff which will be a highlight of my tour through Canada I want to slow down a little bit and soak it all in. So less km for the next days and hopefully more updates. 😉
But since “winter is coming” as many people on the road tell me I need to watch the weather closely and want to make it to Vancouver before end of September. So far I was lucky with the weather with some days of 30 degrees Celsius and only a few days with rain. But snow and below zero temperatures in the mountains is something I want to avoid as best as possible.
So, I’m pedaling on…

Hi Tanya and Serge, I’m still doing fine. Just found it hard to find time to provide the necessary update on the blog. Finally managed to do that today. Heading south/west towards Vancouver now.

Martijn ….
Nice to chat with you this morning at the Pocahontas campground. Enjoy Baja the ferry ride from Las Paz to Mazatlan is an interesting experience, book a cabin. The city I was telling you about in Mexico that I studies Spanish is Guanajuato. I attended the Escuela de Falcon but there are others, and you will find cheap places to stay within blocks of the school.
I’ll follow your travels and maybe catch up on a motocrycle this winter.

Hallo Martijn,

Beste groeten
Martijn
